Funeral services for Reverend Henry Lee McGruder of 653 Blacksmith Road, DeSoto, GA, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 1997 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Reverend Lem Wright will officiate; burial will follow in the church cemetery. Reverend McGruder was born in Sumter County, GA April 3, 1919 to the parentage of the late Mr.. Lonnie McGruder and the late Mrs. Ida Bell Harris McGruder. He attended the public schools in Sumter County, GA. He joined the County Line Baptist Church and was called into the Ministry in 1955. He served as pastor to Triedstone, Perry Grove, Big Bethel Churches, Friendship Church in Henderson, GA and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and Zion Hope Baptist Church in Cordele, GA. Survivors include his wife of eleven years, Rosie H McGruder; four sons, Leonard McGruder, Lee Otis McGruder, Carlton McGruder and Allen McGruder; two daughters, Ms Dorothy Clark and Ms Sarah McGhee; two brothers, Lynwood McGruder and Perry McGruder; six stepsons, Vernon Dariso, Lonnie Dariso, Lee Edward Dariso, Russell Dariso, David Dariso, and Nathaniel Dariso; a step-daughter, Ms Mary Jean Keaton; thirty grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, nineteen step-grandchildren, twelve step-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was born February 2, 1944 in Columbus, son of Calvin and Izora Norman McGruder. He was a technician with Daniel Appliance and a member of Greater Beallwood Baptist Church. He was the widower of Peggy J Hall McGruder. Survivors include 3 step sons, Dwernard (Vancine) hall of Maryland, Christopher Leonard and Kevin Leonard of Columbus; 2 stepdaughters, Winifred Hall and Tammy Phillips of Columbus; 2 brothers, Emmett (Hattie) McGruder of Jackson, GA and Calvin (Jeanette) McGruder III of Columbus; 3 sisters, Cubadeen Williams, elaine (Johnny) Lutrell of Columbus and Armie Jean (Charlie) Collier of Chicago; 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, a sister in law, Hattie Jane Hall of Columbus; 2 brothers in law, Rayfield (Luvenia) Hall of Fort Washington, MD and Roosevelt M Hall Jr of Hamilton, GA; an uncle, Albert (Ann) McGruder of Atlanta, and an aunt, Elizabeth McGruder of Columbus.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born July 2, 1917 in Lee County, GA, daughter of Sonny Wilson and Stella Jackson Wilson. She was the widow of Willie McGruder. Survivors include a sister, Mary Lou Thompson of Smithville.

He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Nathan McGruder III and FOrge McGruder. Survivors include a son, Winston (Annie) McGruder of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter, Deloris (Ernest) Raleigh; a brother, Benjamin F (Alice) McGruder, both of Columbus; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
