He was born July 6, 1907 in Harris County, GA, son of Carrie and Mark Weldon. He retired as a rock mason and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and the widower of Annie Weldon.

Reverend Herbert Hoover Weldon of 3524 Stratford Drive, Columbus, GA, died Friday at his home. He was born June 3, 1914 in Harris County, GA, son of Moses and Mary Weldon. He attended Morehouse College and was a US Army veteran. Later he earned a BS degree in Theology at Morehouse. He retired from Mildred Terry Library and from the Columbus Police Department. He was a former pastor of White Street Baptist Church in Auburn, AL and Christ Temple, and assistant pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church. He was a member of Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs Marty McAllister Weldon and 10 siblings. Survivors include a son, Herbert Hoover (Joan)Weldon Jr of COnyers, GA, a daughter, Penny (Ocie) Mitchell of Los Angeles, CA; 8 grandchildren: Stephanie and Michael Bogan, Tabitha Luckett, Nicky Smikle, Paige, Yani Alexander and Herbert Hoover Weldon III; 4 great grandchildren, Joyia Smikle, Hailey and Tyler Thomas; nieces, Mary (Kenneth) Dornford, Clifford Snellings, Geraldine (Harvey) McFolley, Victoria Butts and Ethelene Weldon; great niece, Gloria Spears; sister in law, Era Weldon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Fourth Street Missionary Baptist CHurch with Reverend J H Flakes officiating with burial in Evergreen Memory Gardens.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 21 at Corinth Baptist Church. Burial was in Rocky Mount Cementery in Garden Valley Community. He was born April 7, 1932 in Macon County, GA, son of Freddie Lee and Rosa Lee Harmon Wells, Sr.. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church. Three siblings, Eddie Lee Wells, Sr, Corean Wells and Lucille Taylor, preceded him in death. His adoptive parents, Willie and Rosie Bell Smith also preceded him in death. He retired from Mulcoa of Andersonville. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Freddie Mae Carson, Evelyn Wells, Rosie Lee Riley, Leophelia wells, Robert Lee Wells, Andrew Joe Wells, Bonnie Mae Egins, Louise Wells, Thelma Daniels, Eddie Lee Wells, Jr., William L Wells, and James Earl Wells.
