Burrell McKenzie, Sr., of 122 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Buena Vista, GA, died Sunday, February 26, 2006. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Poplar Spring Baptist Church with burial in Buena Vista City cemetery. Deacon McKenzie was born July 7, 1932, son of Joseph McKenzie and Gertrude Hunter. He was the widow of Julia Mae Belk McKenzie, who died October 21, 1978. They were married May 31, 1952. Also preceding him in death were three siblings, Vivian Scott, Carl McKenzie and Joseph McKenzie, Jr.. He was a member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church. He retired October 1, 1985 after thirty-four years and six monts service with the Georgia Department of Transportation. Survivors include his children, Burrell (Sherry) McKenzie Jr. of Columbus, Lisa Ann (James) Clark of Fayetteville, GA, Reverend Bruce McKenzie, Robert Bret (Tomeka) McKenzie, Christopher McKenzie and Lora Renee (Kalvin) Clemons, all of Buena Vista and thirteen grandchildren, shoran S. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 17 in the chapel of Meadows Mortuary in Atlanta. Burial will be in Lincoln cemetery in Atlanta. He was born July 11, 1969 in Macon County, GA, son of Dan Marvin McKenzie, Sr. and Baby Ray Harris Hopkins. He graduated from Columbia High School in Decatur in 1987. He acquired skills in small and large machine operations and worked at various warehouses. He was a member of Mt Nebo Baptist Church in southeast Atlanta. He moved to Oglethorpe in 2004 to live with his aunt Mae Nell Harris.
