She was born in Sumter County, GA on January 3, 1905, daughter of Willis and Jane Blackshear Durham. Surviving is a daughter, Katie Richardson Cottle of Newark, NJ; seven grandchildren, Ms Sandra Crawford of Americus, Ms Cheryl (Darrell) Henry, Ms Gloria Cottle, Johnnie Cottle, Jr., Curtis Cottle and Roosevelt Cottle of Newark, NJ; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.

She was employed with the Muscogee County School District, retiring after 20 years service at J D Davis Elementary School. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Albert Durham Sr, her husband, and 5 siblings, Early Bentley, Floyd Bentley, Fletcher Bentley, George Bentley and John Bentley, preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Albert Durham Jr of Columbus, GA; 2 daughters, Rosa (Alfonza Sr) Jones of Baltimore, MD and Major Linda Turk, US Army, Fort Eustis, VA; 7 grandchildren, Rosita Durham, Ashley Durham, Crystal Durham and Jermaine Durham of Columbus,GA and Tonya Durham, Alfonza Durham Jr and Ricky Durham of Baltimore, MD; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond (Florence) Bentley of Detroit, MI; 2 sisters, Fannie M Jackson and Mary L Harper of Dadeville, AL; nephew, Douglas Passmore. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 26, 2006 in the chapel of Progressive Funeral Home with Reverend Homer Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery.

Willie Cooks Durham, 28 year old Negro, 231 Academy Street was pronounced dead on arrival at Sumter Regional Hospital March 18, 2002, after the car in which he was a passenger, was struck by a diesel train at the Central of Georgia railroad crossing on West Church Street, police said. According to police, the car was traveling west on Church Street and stalled on the railroad crossing. The driver of the car, George Flint, Jr., 231 Mitchell Street, jumped out of the vehicle before the train struck it, but the two passengers, Duram and Doris Gordan, 246 South Hampton were unable to get out in time. Mrs. Gordan sustained bruises and was taken to the hospital but was not admitted. Durham was thrown from the car and was struck by the train. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery.
