Other survivors include a brother, Jessie Carter, Germany; two aunts, Mrs. Emogene Dean of Red Bank, NJ, Mrs. Louise Lild of Freehold, NJ; uncles, Columbus Battle of Chicago, IL and John Dean of Red Bank; a cousin, Mrs. Mary Green of Americus.

He graduated from South Georgia Technical School as a practical nurse. He retired after 35 years with Sumter Regional Hospital. He was also a former employee of the Citizens Bank of Americus and a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church. He served 4 years in the armed forces during WW II. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ms Lucille T Dunning, a sister, Thelma Holley, an aunt, Ms Bessie Bryant; sisters in law, Ms Arrie Dunning, Ms Thelma Smith, Mary Ferguson, Ethel Gardenshire and Ms Gladys Vaughn; brothers in law, Booker Trent, James Trent, William Trent, Allen Trent and Dock Holley.

Siblings: Eddie Lee Grundy, Clarence Grundy Mamie Grundy, Arden Grundy, Massie Grundie, Christine Carrie Grundy, Riley Grundy, and Annie Jewell Grundy. She was preceded in death by her husband, George S Edwards (1925 - May 2, 1981). She died July 7, 1989 in Ellaville, GA. She had retired from the Schley County School System and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Funeral services were held July 12, 1989 at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Reverend Carl Munns Jr officiated. Pall Bearers were: Earl McDonald, Clyde Edwards, Kyle Brown, Ehrima Deen and Chester Ruff. Survivors include children: Mollie, Susie Ann, Lillie, Fannie, Jesse, Mamie and Julius Edwards.
